Poker Dvds > Poker Documentaries

There are several poker documentaries out there that are fairly good to watch if you are looking to learn & understand the game. I like to look for poker documentaries that are focused on average people who are really good on the poker tables. Some poker documentaries follow the rise and fall of some poker players who had everything than slowly or in some cases lost it all. There are many poker documentaries to pick out to watch to learn about the game.

I suggest picking out poker documentaries that deal with seven or eight different categories because it will help you with your game and that's what it's all about, right? So let's get started picking out the different areas to work on.

Learning the game, here you will find several different places that will teach you. I have come to find that United Poker Forum holds several great gems of poker documentaries focused on just this subject alone. You can find a lot of poker documentaries on Youtube focusing on learning the poker game. Some of the videos could be considered poker documentaries. You can also find poker documentaries on TV that are on for an hour.

I recently watched a documentary that had been made back in 2006. It detailed a man who wrote a book on poker without ever having played the game. I was very interested in knowing how he would be doing this, it was very interesting to watch to say the least. I have never been one to give great or even bad reviews of movies because I somehow I tell the ending because I get so caught up in telling every bit that I found to be interesting and you know how this goes, but the outline is that the guy spent many hours studying the books, and watching others play.

I think his name was James something or another. Go google it. It's interesting enough, this poker documentary was on the history channel. I have seen some poker documentaries at the library, they seem pretty old so I am not sure whether they would be useful but then again they do say that old adage of "Oldest trick in the book..."

If you go to non commercial video, you can get some great poker documentaries of some very well known poker stars and some people you have never even heard of. I saw this one poker documentary that had aired on FSN back in 2005, it featured Doyle Brunson & Amarillo Slim. I had watched it on TV so I didn't get the poker documentary at the video store. It was called Beyond the Glory.

Some poker documentaries can be aired as a TV series, these are the most interesting because if you really like poker; you'll find that you are following a player or you are looking for new tips or tricks. There is an episode that features the full biography of Amarillo Slim. I have found that Rounders could have very well been a poker documentary but they made it Hollywood so we may have to scratch that out. It shows at great length what you can learn and what you shouldn't do and can't do. I watched it back in 1999, from what I remember it was a very good movie. Had some great acting and it was suspenseful. It also made point references to the game poker.

Poker documentaries, I believe are very important to the game and to how you play it because it helps you learn, it helps you pick up new tricks and new strategies. If you are new to the game or are just looking for an entertaining watch, I suggest you go see if you can find a handful of poker documentaries. Watch them & learn!
